BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
LOCATION
Hornet members benefit from berthing in a marina that is very close to Portsmouth Harbour entrance and to the sheltered waters of the Solent.
SECURITY
Sharing a site that is leased from the Ministry of Defence, the Club is particularly secure for both berthing boats and for car parking. This lease effectively imposes constraints on those who can become members.
CLUBHOUSE
A fully functioning galley and bar are sited in a historic and comfortable Clubhouse, with shower facilities. A number of informal and formal events and lectures are provided. (See Clubhouse tab for more detail). The menu and drinks are offered at very competitive prices.
MARINA and COSTS
The Club is non-profit-making and aims to provide affordable berthing and support for members and for privately funded yachts that are the property of Service Units and Sailing Associations.
The costs of berthing, lift out and shore layup are therefore relatively modest compared to others in the Solent area. Consequently there is a healthy waiting list for berths, particularly for longer yachts within the 40 ft LOA limit, although space for smaller yachts is easier to find.
There are some 230 berths available, and large areas ashore for short and long term lift out. Berthholders, who are expected to use their yachts regularly, have to live or work in the vicinity of Portsmouth, although serving Armed Forces personnel are exempt.
Onsite services include a shipwright, and rigging and diesel engine engineers. (See Marina tab for more detail).
MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA and APPLICATION
Club membership is open to personnel of the Armed Forces, Reserves and Veterans who are full members of one of the three Service Sailing Associations, RNSA, ASA or RAFSA. Members of the MOD Civil Service are also welcome.
